Hi there. It’s three years now and Questlog is still running. I wrote about the anniversarys for year one and year two in the past and I want to do the same this year. Maybe a bit shorter and with a bit less ambitionated goals for 2026.
Questlog is still a hobby and doesn’t make money so the time I can work on it is limited. I also shifted my focus more on my wellbeing an time with my family, so that resulted in less updates in 2025. But there was still progress.
How Questlog progressed in the last year?🔗
Exactly one year ago Questlog was at version 0.33.0. Now it’s 0.49.0 — quite a jump. That means 16 updates that changed something bigger than just a bugfix.
Let us look at what changed in the last year as a short overview.
- New pages for recent releases and upcoming releases
- Add a “Scroll to top”-button
- Automatic generation of YouTube playlists, based on the video of an Event
- A new game status filter in searches
- The option to add a finished date for a finished game
- The current running and next upcoming events now have each a slot on the start page – And you can like an event to save it for later
- You can now also search for Events and Playlists
- A light mode!
- Private Notes for games
- Improvements for the playlist selection
- Improvements for the Steam integration
- Many… MANY Performance improvements
- Many improvements for the design
And many more smaller things. If you’re interested in all changes you can look at the Changelog.
What is planned for 2026?🔗
In the two year’s post I had a list of things I wanted to do, but not everything worked out as I expected. Some are dropped, some are on the backlog and others are still planned.
The reviews rework with Markdown and stuff will be backlogged. I have other improvements, I want to bring, but this doesn’t fit my vision currently. Too many variables and the feedback was quite desinterested. So I drop my vision here (as it was only because I thought you’ll find it cool and not becaue I wanted it for myself) and listen to your feedback.
It will be possible to rate a game without a review. You also will be able to add a link to a review, if you have a blog or something where you go more into detail. And the option to mark a review as a spoiler.
Sliders for the the groups of games are still on my list. It’s just not a priority. But especially on mobile these groups are quite big, so it will probably come sooner rather than later.
I also want to bringt Studios more in focus. Currently it’s only a filter, but it could be a bit more. Also Franchises would be great to have a quick overview of all games that have been released in a Franchise.
When finishing a game I added the finish date, but I want to extend it, so you can say where you played it and how long it took you. Both is a highly requested feature.
Last year I mentioned Community features like follow users and seeing what they’re playing right now. This is still on my list, but as I said privacy and feeling safe is a huge priority for me, so I need a bit of time to plan it.
The Onboarding is also still a mess. I made things a bit easier with the Quick-Add function in Playlists and Statuses, but there is still much room for improvements.
I want you to be able to export your stuff. So I will find a way to make that possible. I don’t know if it will be via an API or just an export button at the right places, but I want you to be able to export a playlist in a format that matters to you (JSON, CSV, whatever…). Also you Status lists, reviews and whatever you add to Questlog should be exportable.
The biggest feature I still want to release, but always be afraid of starting is: Screenshots. I probably should just start and release a first version. But there are so many things to consider. Maybe it will be a feature that is open for a few users for the start to get a feeling for it. Yeah… maybe let’s do it this way.
Questlog will stay ad-free and tracking-free🔗
I want to reinstantiate, that I have no intent to add ads or tracking to Questlog. There also won’t be any paywalls or stuff like that. It’s still a hobby and I want people to have fun.
If you want to support Questlog on Ko-fi, that would be great, but is not mandatory. Questlog will stay online and the development will continue. But I have to be honest, if someone sends me a few bucks as a thank you my motivation is much higher. (Obviously, we live in a capitalist nightmare and money is way too important)
Questlog 1.0.0🔗
I think after I dropped the Alpha label from the Logo about a year ago, I’m now ready to drop the Beta label too. Therefore Questlog reaches version 1.
There are not big changes with this release (just a few fixes), but this is a big step for me mentally. And I also heard the feedback that people thought they would lose their data at some point, as it’s still a beta.
You won’t lose your data. I run a backup script all 6 hours and I have no intend to wipe your data 😀
